                                New Zealand 232 for 4 (Guptill 97, Taylor 45) v West Indies
It turned out to be a bitter-sweet day for the visitors. Martin Guptill undid nearly three meetings of hard work with an impetuous slog that rejected him a much-deserved third check years. Though New Zealand battled hard, they will gaze back and rue all four dismissals because they gifted them away. West Indies, to their borrowing, bowled well in magic charms, and would have wanted for better comes back had the bowlers been backed by better fielding. Sunil Narine looked his potent self late in the day to lift West Indies' spirits after they looked a feel deflated following a wicket-less morning meeting.

What New Zealand required was a solid batting effort to reimburse for their failures in the ODIs. At least one of the openers required to bat through the day and Guptill had all but accomplished that. He had been underachieving as a check batsman, and hence shunned the Indian Premier League to head to Derbyshire to sharpen his skills in the longer format. He furthermore required to improve his check record against better-quality attacks - his two other centuries had come against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. The standout characteristic was his patience at the crease and put a heavy prize tag on his wicket.

                                                   Kallis rested for England ODIs
South Africa have given the clearest suggestion yet that Jacques Kallis will pattern part of their World Twenty20 designs by relaxing him for the ODI sequence against England. Kallis has not played T20I cricket for South Africa since the 2010 World Twenty20, apart from a one-off game against India in his honour in stride, but was named in a 30-man provisional squad for Sri Lanka last week.
